Victorian Cursive Dotted Thirds Generator

You know the drill – your child’s grade 1 teacher reaches out to you and informs you that your darling son/daughter’s handwriting is not up to scratch. You then proceed to arrange a meeting with the teacher who brings a range of handwriting samples from perfect replication of the font through to what the school considers acceptable handwriting. She then proceeds to tell you your darling son/daughter is reluctant to write and their handwriting is not cutting the mustard.

Here in Victoria, Australia we have an “Official” called Victrola Cursive font and can be downloaded from the education department. To help my son with his handwriting I created a simple tool that takes a list of words and generates a downloadable PDF file in the “Official” Victorian Cursive font on 18mm ruled dotted thirds background. These files can then be printed and traced/copied to help improve handwriting.

  1. I love this resource! Thank you for taking the time to share.
The only suggestion/request is the text sits in the middle of the dotted thirds (18mm) and not on the bottom which has been confusing my kids. Is it possible to recify?

    1. Hi Jennifer – I was taught to write my text on the second dotted thirds – with the tails of the j/g/q/y/z going to the bold line. After talking to my son’s school teachers – I was advised in Victoria, Australia the text is written on the bottom bold line.

  2. Thank you this is a great sheet. I have been asking my childs school for something like this in Coronavirus lockdown but they just don’t seem to understand what I’m talking about

  3. I was literally in tears finding out I can use this so effortlessly! Saving heaps of time and having it in the RIGHT font! Thank you Thank you and Thank you a million times over!

    1. Hey Theresa – thank you for your feedback – I am using the “Official” font downloaded from the Victorian Department of Education.

  4. This is fantastic. Easy to use, quick and a perfect example/ model for children to copy or trace over.
Handwriting in dotted thirds isn’t easy. Thanks Renard for making it more accessible for children to practice.
